Football Falters at #18 Miami

Syracuse (3-7, 1-6 ACC) had success on the ground, picking up 161 yards rushing. Yasin Willis led the way with 63 yards, including a long of 22 yards. Will Nixon also went for 61 yards while Tylik Hill ran for 44. Rickie Collins completed 12 passes for 85 yards while Joseph Filardi accounted for his first career passing touchdown, going 3-for-3 for 39 yards and the connection late with Elijah Baker-Washington.
Defensively, the Orange held Miami to just 124 yards on the ground. Gary Bryant III, Demetres Samuel Jr. and Anwar Sparrow each picked up a tackle for loss.
Miami (7-2, 3-2 ACC) had 247 passing yards from Carson Beck, completing 18 of his 24 passes. Beck added a passing touchdown as well. Giard Pringle, Jr. ran for 55 yards on seven carries and a touchdown. The Hurricanes' defense was stout, sacking Syracuse's quarterbacks seven times for 53 yards.
Syracuse enters its second bye week before heading to Notre Dame for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff on November 22. The Orange conclude the 2025 season on November 29 with a game back at the JMA Wireless Dome against longtime rival Boston College. Tickets are available at Cuse.com/tickets
After a scoreless first quarter, Miami seized control with two touchdowns in a 37-second span midway through the second period. The first came on a trick play, as quarterback Malachi Toney connected with Carson Beck on a 14-yard touchdown pass to cap a five-play, 90-yard drive at the 2:13 mark, giving the Hurricanes a 7-0 lead.
Syracuse's ensuing possession lasted just three plays asRickie Collins' pass on third-and-eight from the Syracuse 27Â was intercepted by defensive back Keionte Scott, who returned it 38 yards for a touchdown just 21 seconds of game time later. Carter Davis' extra point made it 14-0 with 1:50 remaining in the half.
The Orange, despite being shut out in the first half, showed resilience to open the third quarter. Syracuse drove 55 yards on eight plays, with Will Nixon's 23-yard run jump starting the possession. The drive stalled at the Miami 20, but Tripp Woody converted a 38-yard field goal to put Syracuse on the board at 14-3.
Miami answered immediately. On the second play of the ensuing possession, Beck found Keelan Marion streaking down the field for a 61-yard touchdown strike, extending the lead to 21-3 just 1:15 after Syracuse's score.
The Hurricanes continued to pull away in the third quarter. A methodical nine-play, 83-yard drive was capped by Girard Pringle Jr.'s 19-yard touchdown run with 2:25 left in the period. Miami added Carter Davis' 36-yard field goal as time expired in the third to take a commanding 31-3 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Miami added another score early in the fourth quarter when Francis Mauigoa bulled in from three yards out to complete a five-play, 51-yard drive, extending the margin to 38-3.
Syracuse got a late touchdown from Filardi, who entered in the fourth quarter. He completed all three of his passes for 39 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown to Wahington-Baker with 21 seconds remaining. The eight-play, 75-yard drive provided the final margin.
