Syracuse (2-1) had another 400-plus yard performance from Steve Angeli, who out-gained his own top-10 performance last week by a single yard with 417 against the Raiders. Angeli becomes the first Syracuse quarterback with back-to-back 400-yard efforts in school history. He also threw five touchdowns, tying the program's single-game record. Darrell Gill Jr. benefited greatly from Angeli's 24-of-32 night, reeling in six catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Five total Orange receivers caught touchdown passes while Angeli, Will Nixon, and Luke Carney all ran for scores as well.
Two-way player Demetres Samuel Jr. finished the game with five tackles, three pass breakups, a touchdown-saving interception, a 10-yard catch from Angeli and a punt return. Braheem Long Jr. added an interception as Jahide Lesaine Jr. recovered a fumbled punt attempt. Long and Jamie Tremble each notched their first collegiate sack as well.
The Orange open ACC play next weekend with a trip to No. 12 Clemson. Game time at Memorial Stadium is set for noon on either ABC or ESPN. Tickets for the remaining Syracuse home games are available on Cuse.com/FootballTickets.Â
After forcing Colgate into a punt just four plays into the game, Syracuse drove 65 yards in just seven plays, capped by a 26-yard touchdown pass from Angeli to Justus Ross-Simmons to start the scoring.
The next Colgate opportunity ended in an interception by Long down at the Syracuse 34 yard line. The opportunity was short-lived following a Syracuse fumble recovered by Colgate.
Six plays later, Colgate cut the Orange lead to 7-3 after a six-play drive culminated in a 39-yard field goal. Syracuse made quick work of its next chance, needing just three and a half minutes to march 83 yards in nine plays as Angeli connected with Gill for a 43-yard catch-and-run that ended the first quarter with a 14-3 'Cuse lead.

The Raiders went three and out again before Angeli and Gill Jr. connected again for a 20-yard pickup, setting up back-to-back Will Nixon runs for a combined 11 yards. Nixon finished off the drive with his first rushing score in Orange, giving SU a 21-3 lead.Â
After Tripp Woody connected on his lone field goal attempt on Syracuse's ensuing possession, 'Cuse ended the half with back-to-back touchdown drives on their final two possessions of the second quarter. Gill caught his second of the evening with 6:50 remaining in the half, before Jaylan Hornsby collected his first collegiate touchdown reception to give the Orange a 38-3 lead. Samuel, the freshman phenom, ended the half with his first collegiate interception.
Syracuse was forced to punt for the first time on its first third-quarter offensive drive, but the offense clicked back into gear on its next possession. Syracuse native Darien Williams' first collegiate reception found the end zone to open a 45-3 lead.
Colgate scored the game's next two touchdowns, as Jake Stearney hit Reed Swanson twice for touchdown passes of 12 and 23 yards. Angeli then added a one-yard rushing score - his sixth touchdown responsible for on the day - capping his career night with 11:03 left in regulation.
The Raiders tacked on one final score, before Rickie Collins accounted for his first touchdown with the Orange midway through the fourth quarter, finding Gabe Daniels for 12 yards.Â
The Orange defense forced its third turnover of the game as a would-be Raider punt bounced off a Colgate helmet and was recovered by Jahide Lesaine Jr., setting Syracuse up at the Raiders' 13-yard line. Two plays later, Luke Carney rolled left and went untouched to the end zone for his first career touchdown from 13 yards out, giving Syracuse a 66-24 lead with five minutes to play, which would be the final result.
