
Orange Sweep Penn State Spiked Shoe

The Syracuse cross country teams swept their second meet in six days, winning both team events and individual events at Penn State's Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational and the Orange women took down their first ranked squad of the year in No. 10 Penn State.
The No. 13 Syracuse men's five scorers finished first through fifth, and the Orange put eight in the top-10, handily defeating the field, which included ACC rival Pittsburgh and host Penn State.
Connell Alford (25:29.0) earned the individual win, where he was followed in succession by Connor Ackley (25:32.1), Benne Anderson (25:34.4), Louis Small (25:35.4) and Edward Blaha (25:36.3) taking the top-five spots.
Sam Ricchiuti (25:42.5) and Julian Franjieh (25:47.7) were seventh and eighth, respectively, followed by Drew Zundell (25:50.3) in 10th. Ruben Rojas Betanzos (26:13.1) and Andrew Walton (26:15.0), rounded out the field in 18th and 19th, giving Syracuse 11 of the meet's top-19 finishers.
The Orange men scored the minimum 15 points, defeating Pittsburgh (55), Penn State (94), Saint Joseph's (123), American (134), Bucknell (149), Buffalo (194) and Monmouth (249).
Keira Rogan led the way in her Orange debut, winning the race in 20:16.5, seven seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Jayden Harberts (20:38.6) was third, followed by Maisie Burns (20:55.2) in sixth. Gretta Johnson (21:03.6) and Carmen Luisi (21:10.5) were 10th and 12th to round out the Syracuse scoring.
Naomi Ben David (21:38.2), Mackenzie Cook (21:56.0), Brielle McClarnon (22:02.0), Alycia Hart (22:08.7), Natalie Fouts (22:15.2), Josie Baker (22:17.5) and Sarah Lawson (23:07.4) rounded out the field.
Syracuse scored 32 points, defeating the No. 10 Nittany Lions by four points. Pittsburgh (90), Monmouth (95), Maryland (124), Bucknell (178), Saint Joseph's (190), American (235) and Buffalo (268) concluded the team scoring.
The Orange are off next weekend, before competing at Princeton on Sept. 26.
