
Cross Country Heads to Mizzou for Gans Creek Classic

The Syracuse cross country teams return from a week hiatus and will compete at the Gans Creek Classic at Mizzou on Friday.

MEET PREVIEW:
This is the first major test of the season for the Orange cross country squads, with 40 of the 64 teams that will race in the Gold Championship Race on Friday represented in the national polls this week.
The women's field features 16 teams who are ranked or receiving votes in this week's USTFCCCA Poll, including No. 2 Oregon, No. 5 Stanford, No. 6 Alabama, No. 8 Northern Arizona, No. 12 Florida, No. 16 Michigan State, No. 18 Virginia, No. 22 Utah, No. 24 Lipscomb, No. 26 Colorado and No. 27 Iowa State, plus Syracuse, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Tulane, and Washington State, who are all receiving votes.
The men's field features even more, with 18 ranked squads and six more receiving votes in the 32 team Gold Race field. Those teams are: No. 1 Iowa State, No. 4 BYU, No. 6 Virginia, No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Wake Forest, No. 11 Alabama, No. 12 Syracuse, No. 13 Colorado, No. 14 Northern Arizona, No. 15 Butler, No. 17 Eastern Kentucky, No. 18 Washington State, No. 20 Princeton, No. 23 Tulane, No. 24 Air Force, No. 25 Ole Miss, No. 27 Michigan State and No. 28 Furman, plus Michigan, Gonzaga, Weber State, Iona, Portland and Tennessee, who are receiving votes.
MEET HISTORY:
This is Syracuse's first time competing at the event. The Gans Creek Course opened in 2019, but the Orange will race twice here this season as the NCAA Championships will be hosted by Mizzou in November.
ORANGE ENTRIES:
The women's entries will come from the following eight runners: Selma Anderson, Maisie Burns, Emma Eastman, Jayden Harberts, Madeline Heintz, Nyah Hernandez, Carmen Luisi and Olivia Shattuck.
The men will race a group of Connell Alford, Benne Anderson, Asher Danielson, Ben Gabelman, Assaf Harari, Sam Lawler, Matthew Neill, Louis Small and Peter Walsdorf.
