Both Orange Squads Finish Top-5 at Princeton

The Syracuse men's cross country team finished second, while the women placed fifth during a rain-soaked Meadows Challenge at Princeton on Saturday.

The No. 9 ranked Orange men (67 points) finished behind only No. 4 Alabama (42 points), but ahead of RV Villanova (104), RV Georgetown (127), RV North Carolina (129), No. 25 Princeton (156), Cornell (186), Duke (217) and others.

Benne Anderson was the top men's finisher, taking third in 23:11.2. Ben Gabelman also turned in a top-10 finish (23:26.3). Connor Ackley (23:26.6), Connell Alford (23:33.6) and Louis Small (23:34.8) rounded out the Orange scoring with 13th, 19th and 22nd place finishes, respectively.

Edward Blaha (23:41.4), Julian Franjieh (23:51.8), Charles Guerrera (23:57.7), Andrew Walton (24:09.7), Drew Zundell (24:14.0), Asher Danielson (24:14.7), Ruben Rojas Betanzos (24:16.6) and Sam Ricchiuti (24:45.4) rounded out the field.

The Orange women, who are receiving votes in the poll, earned 153 points for a fifth-place finish. No. 10 Alabama (57 points) won the women's race as well, followed by No. 19 North Carolina (75 points), RV Providence (87), RV Duke (105) and then the Orange. 'Cuse bested RV Wake Forest (201), No. 13 Penn State (222), No. 25 Princeton (226), No. 29 Villanova (243) and eight others.

Keira Rogan led the way with a seventh-place finish, completing the 6k course in 19:58.8. Jayden Harberts (20:42.0), Carmen Luisi (20:42.7) and Gretta Johnson (20:43.9) all turned in top-50 finishes, placing 26th, 27th and 41st. Maisie Burns (21:05.6) rounded out the scoring with a 53rd-place finish.

Mackenzie Cook (21:21.9), Natalie Fouts (21:45.4), Josie Baker (21:47.6), Alycia Hart (22:03.5), Naomi Ben David (22:16.7), Brielle McClarnon (22:47.1) and Sarah Lawson (23:11.2) completed the field for SU.

The Orange are off for two weeks, before heading to NCAA Pre-Nationals and the Princeton Invitational, both on Oct. 16.
