SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse men's soccer improved to 3-1 on the season with a commanding 4-0 victory over Iona on Monday night at the SU Soccer Stadium.
Buster Honeywood opened the scoring just 70 seconds into the match, converting an assist from Bryson Rodriguez. The Orange doubled their advantage in the 11th minute when Rodriguez found the back of the net himself, set up by Kristjan Fortier.
'Cuse continued its offensive pressure in the second half when Landon Darko extended the margin off an assist from Sachiel Ming. Pedro Gulli closed out the scoring, finishing off Rodriguez's third assist of the night.
Syracuse out-shot Iona 23-5 with a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal, and won the corner kick battle, 13-2. Sophomore goalkeeper Juan Martinez-Bastidas recorded one save in his debut for the Orange.
Syracuse opens ACC play on Friday, Sept. 4 against No. 13 Clemson at SU Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
