The Orange finally found the breakthrough in the second half: in the 71st minute, Ivan Irinimbabazi buried the game-winner, assisted by Chimere Omeze and Sachiel Ming, off a sequence that started with a corner kick.
From there, Syracuse's defense and goalkeeper Juan Martinez-Bastidas locked things down, holding Notre Dame scoreless despite the Irish out-attempting shots on goal 4-1 for the game, with Martinez-Bastidas recording one save.
This marks the second win over a ranked opponent this season, having previously upset then-No. 24 UConn, 2-1 to open the season.Â
