SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse (7-5-1, 1-3-1 ACC) dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 11 Louisville (10-1-2, 3-1-1 ACC) on Saturday at SU Soccer Stadium, falling to a single first-half goal despite matching the Cardinals shot for shot.
Louisville took the lead in the 22nd minute when Braydon Sellers finished off a feed from Jack Boring. It was the only goal of the match. The Orange had a few early looks, including a shot from Nathan Scott in the 2nd minute that went just wide, but Louisville controlled much of the first half, outshooting Syracuse 7-6 before the break.
Syracuse pushed for the equalizer after halftime and earned eight corners over the match to Louisville's three. Jordan Grey was the most dangerous Orange attacker off the bench, putting both of his shots on goal, while Landon Darko and Sachiel Ming each tested Louisville keeper Nathaniel Abraham. Abraham made four saves to preserve the shutout. At the other end, Juan Martinez-Bastidas played all 90 minutes and made two saves.
The match grew physical in the second half. Louisville was whistled for 16 fouls to Syracuse's seven, and each side picked up three yellow cards. Kristjan Fortier, Gabriel Oksanen and Ming were cautioned for the Orange.
The Orange continue ACC play, heading to Wake Forest for a Saturday matchup at 7 p.m. with streaming on ACCNX.
