Bryan Claims Bronze, Strauss Finishes Seventh at U23 World Rowing Championships

Bryan, rowing in the four-seat, helped New Zealand's eight advance straight to the A Final after taking on defending world champions Great Britain in the heat. In the final, the Kiwi crew trailed by more than a second at the 500-meter mark and sat in fourth at the halfway point before surging into position with a decisive push through 1,500 meters, ultimately crossing the line behind Great Britain and the United States to secure bronze.

It marks the second consecutive year New Zealand's under-23 men's eight has reached the podium at the World Championships, and Bryan – the only rower to return from last year's silver-medal boat – played a central role in both results. The finish extends his run of international success, following his 2025 U23 silver with New Zealand's eight in Poznan, Poland, and adds to a résumé that includes a 2022 appearance at the World Rowing U19 Championships.
Bryan was joined in the New Zealand eight by Oli Leach, Dylan McConnell, Matthew Glen, Sam Woodgate, Josh Syme, Ted Mayne, Luke Hickling and coxswain Hunter Rowland.
Competing for Austria in the Men's Single Sculls, Strauss placed seventh in a field of 25 entries. The finish came in Strauss's fifth career world championship appearance, a run that spans the 2022 and 2023 U19 Championships and back-to-back U23 Championships in 2024 and 2025 making 2026 his third time competing globally at U23s.ÂBoth Bryan and Strauss raced together in Syracuse's varsity eight this past spring, which finished 10th at the 2026 IRA National Championship in June.
