5/17/2026 5:56:00 PM | Men's Rowing
The Syracuse men's rowing team finished sixth in the Rowe Cup team standings with 24 points at the IRA Eastern Sprints on Saturday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., highlighted by a bronze medal from the 2nd Varsity Eight — the program's first Sprints medal since the Varsity 8 earned bronze at the 2023 regatta.
The 2V8 was the story of the day for the Orange, winning its semifinal in 5:43.161 to advance to the grand final for the second time this season against Dartmouth, Cornell, Boston University and Georgetown — all opponents Syracuse had already topped this spring. In the afternoon final, the Orange clocked another 5:43.210 to claim bronze behind winner Princeton (5:36.314) and Harvard (5:36.814), finishing ahead of Northeastern, Brown and Dartmouth.
The Varsity 8 advanced out of Heat 3 with a third-place finish to race in the afternoon's petite final, where Syracuse crossed in 5:40.397 for third in that race — ninth overall — behind winner Yale (5:36.909) and Boston University (5:38.025).
The 3rd Varsity Eight advanced to the grand final after finishing second in its morning heat behind Harvard. Syracuse placed fourth overall with a time of 6:07.826, trailing Princeton (5:53.299), Harvard (5:53.747) and Brown (6:05.262) while finishing ahead of Dartmouth (6:11.002) and Penn (6:15.136).
The 4th Varsity Eight also qualified for the grand final with a third-place heat performance in 6:00.707 behind Princeton and Dartmouth. In the final, Syracuse crossed in 6:06.306 to finish fifth, trailing Princeton (5:58.894), Dartmouth (6:00.872), Penn (6:00.938) and Harvard but edging Boston University.
Syracuse turns its focus to the IRA Championship Regatta where the Orange will race all three varsity eights and a varsity four at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., from Friday, May 29 through Sunday, May 31.Â
