Syracuse Shows Depth at Princeton Invite

The Orange showed depth in its season opener at the Princeton Invite on Saturday at Lake Carnegie. Syracuse's 2V8 went undefeated on the day, beating crews from Cal, Yale and Brown, while the Varsity Eight earned a win over Penn in the afternoon.
In the first race of the season for Syracuse, the Orange V8 finished in 6:16.977 behind winner Cal (6:08.089), Yale (+2.836) and Brown (6:13.737), but bounced back in the afternoon to defeat Penn by 3.908 seconds, finishing in 6:06.365.
The 2V8 won its morning race, beating Cal by 3.604 seconds, Brown by 8.884 seconds and Yale by 20.450 seconds with a time of 6:15.933. In the afternoon, Syracuse (6:13.857) beat Penn by 3.792.
The 3V8 earned second in its morning race, 3.078 seconds behind Cal (6:31.053) and ahead of Yale (6:37.107) and Brown (6:43.333). In the afternoon, Penn got the better of the Orange by 3.936 seconds, finishing in 6:15.895 while the Orange crossed in 6:19.831.
The 4th Varsity Eight (6:46.681) earned a win in the morning over Brown (+6.072) and the Princeton lightweights (6:54.697), but lost to Princeton's heavyweight 4V8 (6:15.447) in the afternoon by 10.150 seconds.
The Orange return to action this weekend to race Cornell and Navy in the annual Goes Trophy Race on Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca, N.Y.
