Syracuse men's rowing has placed four student-athletes on the Empacher-IRCA All-America Team, the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association announced Thursday.
Benjamin Campbell-Reide earned First Team All-America honors, while Mack Carr and Nick Bryan were named to the Second Team. Niki Strauss received honorable mention recognition. All four were members of the Orange varsity 8, which finished 10th at the IRA National Championship earlier this month.
Campbell-Reide raced in the 4-seat of the Varsity 8, Carr sat 5-seat, Bryan was the Orange 2-seat, and Strauss sat in bow seat. This marks the fifth-straight year the Orange have had four or more All-America honorees.
To be eligible for All-America consideration, student-athletes must have raced in their program's varsity boat during the current spring season, met all institutional eligibility requirements, been nominated by their institution, and have a head coach in good standing with the IRCA. Selections are made by the IRCA Board of Directors based on the strength of finish of the institution's varsity boat, nomination rank within the institution, and a combination of coach's comments, individual achievements, and erg score.
