THE GAME
- Ring of Honor and Alumni Weekend are here as No. 5 Syracuse plays host to long-time rival Virginia, ranked 13th in this week's USILA Division I Coaches Poll.
- At halftime of Saturday's game, legendary head coach John Desko will be forever enshrined at the Dome, becoming the 10th member of the Ring of Honor.
- In addition to the Ring of Honor ceremonies, Syracuse will welcome back alumni from across the decades of program history.
- Syracuse looks to rebound after suffering a 14-9 setback at new number one North Carolina last weekend while trying to cool off the red-hot Cavaliers, winners of four straight after improving to 2-0 in ACC play with a 14-10 win over No. 7 Duke last weekend.
- It's Tripleheader Day at The Dome, leading off with No. 3 Syracuse women's lacrosse against No. 19 Notre Dame at noon, followed by the Orange men's game at 4 p.m., with 'Cuse football wrapping up the day with its Spring Game following the men's lacrosse game.
- The Orange and Cavaliers meet for the 44th time dating back to 1938, with Syracuse holds a one-game lead (22-21) in the all-time series.
- Syracuse hung in the top five of the USILA Division I Coaches Poll this week, sliding back two spots to fifth. The Cavaliers moved up from 16th to 13th in this week's poll. Saturday will be the third time this season Syracuse faces a team ranked 13th in the USILA Coaches Poll. The Orange have split the previous two meetings against Harvard and Georgetown two weeks.
- Saturday's showdown is slated for a 4 p.m. start on ESPNU, a third-straight game on the network for the Orange.
- Cooper Boardman and Syracuse All-American midfielder Paul Carcaterra will have the call for ESPNU on Saturday.
- The game will also air on the Syracuse Sports Network with Tim Leonard and Kyle Fetterly on the call for TK99/105 in Syracuse, through Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and the TuneIn app.
- Syracuse student-radio station WAER will be on hand as well for the game.
EVERYONE EATS
- Unselfish play has been key to success for the Orange so far this season.
- A lot of different players have been involved in the scoring lines for Syracuse from all positions with attackmen, middies, goalies, poles, defensive midfielders all finding the net or picking up assists.
- While winning six of the last seven games, Syracuse has had at least half its goals in each win assisted, including four games with at least 75 percent of the Orange goals assisted.
- Over the last seven games, half of those contests have featured double-digit point getters, including 11 vs. Georgetown and a dozen versus Duke in the home wins across that stretch.
- The March 28 win over then-No. 4 Duke was evidence to that as 87.5 percent of the Syracuse goals were assisted. Only two goals came without a helper on the backend.
- Of the 10 teams with the most total goals this year, Syracuse is one of the leaders in assisted goals with 60 percent of its goals coming with help. Of those 10, only three (Virginia, Utah, UMass) have a better assisted-goal ratio than Syracuse.
THE RING OF HONOR
- On Saturday, April 11, Syracuse legend John Desko will have his name forever enshrined at the Dome as he becomes the 10th member of the Ring of Honor.
- Desko will join Ring of Honor members Roy Simmons Jr. (Men's Lacrosse), Jim Brown (Football/Men's Lacrosse), Dick MacPherson (Football), Ernie Davis (Football), Floyd Little (Football), Jim Boeheim (Men's Basketball), Dave Bing (Men's Basketball), Dwayne "Pearl" Washington (Men's Basketball), and Ben Schwartzwalder (Football).
- A touchstone in the Syracuse men's lacrosse program for 46 years - from 1975 as a student-athlete until his retirement as head coach in 2021 - Desko was part of all 11 NCAA Division I National Championships.
- Desko collected 265 wins at the helm, with 529 victories to his credit as a student-athlete, an assistant coach for 19 seasons, and 23 years as the headman.
- The Camillus, New Yorker mentored some of the game's greatest players, coaching 271 All-Americans, three Tewaaraton Award winners, seven Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award winners (presented to the nation's most outstanding player), and a combined 28 national positional players of the year across the Turnbull, Schmeisser, MacLaughlin and Kelly awards.
A WIN ON SATURDAY WOULD...
- Improve Syracuse to 23-21 all-time against Virginia, including a 10-6 record at home against the Cavaliers.
- Bump Syracuse's home record to 6-0 on the season, a third-straight season with at least six home wins.
- Mark the eighth top-20 win this year for the Orange (#16 Boston University, #1 Maryland, #19 Penn, #11 Hopkins, #14 Denver, #13 Georgetown, #4 Duke). Syracuse won eight top 20 games all of last spring
- Be the 971st win in program history, the second-most all-time among Division I programs.
