THE GAME
- Back on the road for Syracuse men's lacrosse as the No. 3 Orange head for the Research Triangle to tussle with No. 2 North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at Dorrance Field.
- It's a double-dip in Carolina for Syracuse lacrosse as the No. 4 women's team plays at No. 17 Duke on Saturday at 4 p.m.
- The Syracuse men's team looks to keep things rolling after an unblemished month of March as the Orange went 6-0, including opening ACC play 1-0 with a 16-15 thriller against No. 4 Duke. The Orange are 4-2 on the road this year while the Tar Heels are 6-0 at Dorrance Field, but have not hosted a team ranked as highly as the Orange.
- Syracuse jumped back into the top five in both the USILA Division I Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Division I Media Poll, sitting in third in both rankings. Carolina is second in both polls, setting up the first top-three game between the teams since No. 1 Syracuse beat No. 2 UNC 17-10 at the Dome in 1994.
- Syracuse leads the all-time series with the Tar Heels 20-13, but North Carolina got the better of the Orange last spring at the Dome in a 14-12 battle. However, Syracuse has won two of the last three, including a 10-9 nailbiter at Dorrance in 2024. The Orange snapped a four-game slide to the Heels with a 15-14 neutral site win thanks to a last-minute Michael Leo goal in 2024.
- Syracuse won its seventh top-20 game of the year last week with the 16-15 track meet win over the No. 4 Blue Devils. The Orange are 2-0 against top five teams in 2026.
- Saturday's showdown is slated for a 2 p.m. start on ESPNU, a second-straight game on the network for the Orange.
- Anish Shroff and Syracuse All-American midfielder Paul Carcaterra will have the call for ESPNU on Saturday.
- The game will also air on the Syracuse Sports Network with Tim Leonard and Kyle Fetterly on the call for TK99/105 in Syracuse, through Cuse.com, The Varsity App, and the TuneIn app.
- Syracuse student-radio station WAER will be on hand as well for the game.
LACROSSE SCHOOL
- It's no secret that Syracuse is a Lacrosse School™.
- The Orange men's and women's teams went untouched through the month of March as the women's team logged an 8-0 month while the men's side posted a 6-0 record, including 4-0 on the road
- Only one other school had both its men's and women's teams go undefeated in the month of March: Richmond (Women 6-0, Men 4-0).
- Syracuse is one of two schools (North Carolina) with both its men's and women's teams ranked inside the top five of their respective coaches' polls and one of three with both teams in the top 10 (North Carolina, Maryland).
EVERYONE EATS
- Unselfish play has been key to success for the Orange so far this season.
- A lot of different players have been involved in the scoring lines for Syracuse from all positions with attackmen, middies, goalies, poles, defensive midfielders all finding the net or picking up assists.
- While on this six-game run, Syracuse has had at least half its goals in every game assisted, including four games with at least 75 percent of the Orange goals assisted.
- Over the last six games, half of those contests have featured double-digit point getters, including 11 vs. Georgetown and a dozen versus Duke in the home wins across that stretch.
- Last week's win over No. 4 Duke was evidence to that as 87.5 percent of the Syracuse goals were assisted. Only two came without a helper on the backend.
- Of the 15 teams with the most total goals this year, Syracuse is one of the leaders in assisted goals with over 60 percent of its goals coming with help. Only four programs (Virginia, Utah, UMass, Bucknell) have a better assisted-goal ratio than Syracuse.
A WIN ON SATURDAY WOULD...
- See the Orange extend their winning streak to seven straight after topping No. 19 Penn, No. 11 Johns Hopkins Air Force, #14 Denver, #13 Georgetown, and #4 Duke. It would be the longest run of wins in the Gary Gait Era (2022) and the longest since nine straight in 2017.
- Improve Syracuse to 21-13 all-time against North Carolina, including a 5-8 mark on the road.
- Bump Syracuse's road record to 5-2 on the season.
- Mark the eighth top-20 win this year for the Orange (#16 Boston University, #1 Maryland, #19 Penn, #11 Hopkins, #14 Denver, #13 Georgetown, #4 Duke). Syracuse won eight top 20 games all of last spring
- Be the 971st win in program history, the second-most all-time among Division I programs.
