Slovenia Native Mahmutovic Commits to SU

Mark Morano Mahmutovic, a 6-7, 230 guard from Postojna, Slovenia, has accepted a written offer of athletic aid at Syracuse, according to Coach Gerry McNamara.

Mahmutovic competed for the Helios Suns in the Slovenian-Liga the past year. Mahmutovic owns extensive International Basketball Federation (FIBA) experience while representing Slovenia.
SLOVENIA U16 Team (2023)
Slovenia placed sixth in the 2023 FIBA Eurobasket U16 Tournament. Mahmutovic averaged 20.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest in seven games. He had 36 points, including five 3-pointers, against Spain, a game Slovenia lost, 82-79. Mahmutovic had 22 points when Slovenia defeated Serbia, 74-72.

Mahmutovic helped Slovenia to third place at the 2024 FIBA Eurobasket U18 Tournament. He averaged 8.6 points and 3.9 rebounds an outing over seven games. One of his top performances came in a 79-56 triumph against Sweden when he posted eight points, seven rebounds and five assists. Mahmutovic had 10 points in the third-place game versus Israel, an 84-70 victory.

Mahmutovic produced double-digit scoring efforts in all seven games, including a tournament-best 31 points in a 93-76 victory against Latvia. He followed that with 24 points when Slovenia defeated Greece, 103-72. Mahmutovic added another 24-point outing in a win against Germany. During the tournament, Mahmutovic converted 22-of-45 (.489) of his 3-point shots. He had five 3-pointers against Latvia, Greece and Germany. Slovenia finished sixth in the event.
