CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the first time in his career, Syracuse University senior midfielder Luke Rhoa was tabbed as the ACC Offensive Player of the Week. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its weekly award winners Tuesday afternoon.
Rhoa, who hails from Potomac, Maryland, canned three goals and tallied an assist as fifth-ranked Syracuse upended No. 13 Virginia 14-9 at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday. The St. John's College High School graduate had an efficient day shooting the ball, scoring three times on his seven total shots, finding the net on each of his three shots on goal. Two of his three goals were very timely, putting the Orange back up by a pair on each of his first two goals. His third goal of the day made it a four-goal game midway through the third quarter.
Saturday's hat trick was Rhoa's fourth of the season and third in the last five games. The two-handed sniper has a hat trick in two of the three ACC games to date and has multiple goals in every ACC game this season.
Notre Dame defenseman Nate Schwitzenberg was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
No. 5/No. 5 Syracuse plays its final nonconference game of the regular season this weekend, hosting longtime local foe Colgate on Saturday. Game time at the JMA Wireless Dome is slated for 5 p.m. on ACC Network with Cooper Boardman and Jules Heningburg on the call.
Syracuse and Colgate meet for the 65th time since the series began over 100 years ago. Prior to Saturday's game, the Orange will honor its senior class with a pregame ceremony. Tickets for the final home game of the regular season are available at Cuse.com/lacrosse-tickets.
