CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Syracuse University classmates Joey Spallina and Riley Figueiras swept the ACC Men's Lacrosse weekly awards as the former was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week while the latter was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
This marks the season week in a row Syracuse men's lacrosse secures both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week and the third week this season with a weekly award winner. This is Spallina's seventh ACC Offensive Player of the Week honor while Figueiras earns the first of his career.
Spallina, who hails from Mount Sinai, New York, led all scorers on Friday as No. 2 Syracuse toppled No. 1 Maryland 11-9. The senior co-captain tallied four goals on nine total shots, putting five on cage while marked by one of the nation's top cover defenders. Spallina, who added a career-best tying five ground balls, now has a hat trick in every game of 2026 while chasing Mike Powell's career points record (307).
Figueiras, arguably one of the most underrated close defensemen in Division I, held Maryland's Leo Johnson in check. While the Terp did score twice, he was held without a point while marked by Figueiras. Johnson's only two goals of the game came after Figueiras slid off to aid on defense elsewhere. The Sunderland, Marylander notched three ground balls and caused a turnover on Maryland's Elijah Stobaugh.
Now the number one team in the country, Syracuse hits the road for the first time this season. The No. 1 Orange face No. 13 Harvard on Saturday with a 1 p.m. start time, a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament First Round. ESPN+ will handle the stream with Joel Godett '09 and Adam Pascal on the call. Luke Burgess and Kyle Fetterly will have the radio broadcast on ESPN Radio Syracuse 97.7/100.1.
