
Men’s Lacrosse Returns to Number One

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – For the first time since March 9, 2020, Syracuse University men's lacrosse is the number one team in the country as the USILA Division I Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll both came out Monday morning.
Syracuse (3-0) toppled previous number one Maryland Friday night 11-9 at the JMA Wireless Dome, the team's first win over the top-ranked team since April 1, 2017.
The Orange were nearly unanimous in the USILA Coaches Poll, picking up 578 points and 27 of the 29 first-place votes. Maryland was second with 507 points, nine ahead of Georgetown in third. Cornell was fourth with 451 points and one first-place vote. North Carolina was fifth with 420 points. Notre Dame had the remaining first-place vote, sitting in eighth with 413 points.
Syracuse was the unanimous first-place team in the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, notching 440 points and all 22 first-place votes. Maryland was second with 414 points with North Carolina (358), Georgetown (347) and Cornell (343) rounding out the top five of the Media Poll.
Syracuse will face 11 teams ranked inside the top 20 of the USILA Division I Coaches Poll at some point this season: No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 Georgetown, No. 5 North Carolina, No. 7 Duke, No. 8 Notre Dame, No. 12 Princeton, No. 13 Harvard, No. 14 Johns Hopkins, No. 15 Boston University, No. 16 Denver, No. 17 Virginia, with Colgate, Saint Joseph's, and Penn all receiving votes. Syracuse is currently 2-0 against teams ranked in the top 20 at game time.
In the Media Poll, the Orange also face 11 teams in the top 20 during the 2026 season: No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 North Carolina, No. 4 Georgetown, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 8 Duke, No. 12 Princeton, No. 13 Johns Hopkins, No. 14 Harvard, No. 15 Virginia, No. 17 Denver, No. 18 Boston University, as Colgate and Penn picked up votes.
