Syracuse (15-11, 6-7 ACC) is headed to Durham, N.C., to take on #4 Duke (23-2, 12-1 ACC) on Monday evening.
Â
Riding the Momentum
The Orange travel to Durham riding a two-game winning streak after besting California in double overtime and taking down SMU in the final seconds of regulation last week.
Â
The offense saw production from top-to-bottom last week, with six players scoring in double figures against California and the bench producing 24 points in the SMU win. During the winning streak, the Orange are shooting 65-of-131 (.496) from the field.
Â
Senior Nate Kingz played key roles in both victories, pouring in a team-best 27 points against the Golden Bears before hitting the game-winning layup in the triumph over SMU. The senior has been the Orange's top threat from 3-point range, hitting 51 triples this year.
Â
Recent Contributions
The Orange have received contributions from a number of players over the past week, including junior Naithan George, who dished out 16 assists over the last two contests. He had 14 points and 10 assists against California.Â
Freshman Kiyan Anthony's second-half surge, which featured 13 points, led the comeback for Syracuse against SMU. The freshman hit a crucial 3-pointer before giving Syracuse the lead with just over five minutes remaining on a conventional three-point play.
Senior William Kyle III has continued to be a rim protector for the Orange. He is tied for third among Division I players in blocked shots with 69. Kyle III was dominant on the boards against California, grabbing a career-high 16 and pouring in 15 points for a double-double.
Sophomore Donnie Freeman continues to pace the Orange scorers at 17.6 points per game, while his 17.5 average in conference contests ranks eighth among ACC players. Freeman posted 18 points to lead the team in scoring for the 11th time this season against SMU. He added a career-high four blocks.
Scouting Duke
The Blue Devils have lost just two games this season by a combined four points and stand alone atop the ACC standings at 12-1. Duke brings an offense that scores 82.2 points per game while holding opponents to just 63.1, the third-best defensive mark in the nation.
Â
Duke started its ACC schedule with 10 consecutive triumphs, before narrowly falling to in-state rival North Carolina just over a week ago. The Blue Devils got back in the win column with victories over Pittsburgh and Clemson last week.
Â
Freshman Cameron Boozer leads the way for Duke, averaging 22.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. His scoring average tops the ACC and Boozer is one of just four players in the league to have scored 500 points this season. He has scored in double figures in every game and logged a double-double in four of his last six contests.
Â
Sophomore Isaiah Evans provides 14.4 points per game and has connected for a squad-best 62 3-pointers this season. Over the past two games, Evans has knocked down 9-of-15 (.600) shots from beyond the arc and is averaging 19.0 points.
Â
The Blue Devils are led by Jon Scheyer, who is in his fourth year at the helm. Since taking over for Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski, Scheyer has piloted Duke to a 112-24 record. He served in several roles with the program under Krzyzewski and has been a coach with the team since the 2013-14 season.
Â
Scheyer played for the Blue Devils and was a four-year letterman. He ranks 10th on Duke's all-time scoring list. Scheyer was part of an NCAA Championship team in 2010 and was named a second-team All-American and first-team All-ACC as a senior.
