From the Start
- The final weekend of regular season hockey is here as the Orange host longtime rival Boston College Friday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
- Game time is slated for 4 p.m. for the final home game of the regular season.
- Following this weekend, Syracuse heads for Chapel Hill for the 2026 ACC Field Hockey Tournament, hosted at Karen Shelton Stadium on the campus of University of North Carolina.
- The No. 13 Orange are coming off a weekend sweep of thrillers at Coyne, getting past Stanford 3-2 Friday night on a late goal from Taylor Bigbie and a 2-1 (SU 3-2 SO) win over No. 16 California thanks to a brick wall effort in the second half from goalkeeper Tane King and Aubrey Turner scoring the deciding shootout goal.
- The Eagles split with the west coasters last weekend, falling 2-1 against No. 16 California before a bounce-back 3-0 win over Stanford on Sunday.
- Friday is an Otto's Army game and will be a Military Appreciation game as well. Syracuse will honor a Hometown Hero at halftime of the game.
- This week's single game caps the longest home stretch for the Orange this year. Syracuse is looking to cap the home slate with a 5-1 record at J.S. Coyne Stadium in 2026, which would make the fewest home losses since going 9-0 in 2022 at the friendly confines.
- Friday's tilt will be the 43rd meeting between Syracuse and Boston College dating back to the 1988 season. Syracuse leads the series 29-13 and 18-10 in league games dating back to the BIG EAST days. The Orange and Eagles have clashed every year since 2008 holding 16-6 record in that stretch.
- Farquhar is in the later stages of her fourth regular season at the helm of the program, looking to add to her 44 wins in her time at Syracuse. The Orange reached the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals for a second time in those first three years last year, knocking out Liberty in strokes.
With a Win Friday Syracuse Would...
- Improve to 5-1 at J.S. Coyne this season, the best winning percentage at Coyne since going 9-0 in 2022.
- Run its record to 6-1 on blue AstroTurf this year, adding a 3-0 win at Virginia in late September.
- Notch the 15th win in the month of October under Farquhar's watch, including improving to 13-6 in the 10th month since 2024.
- Conclude Syracuse's conference record to 5-3 on the season.
- Be the first home win for the Orange over Boston College since a 3-0 win back on Sept. 30, 2022. The teams have met at Coyne just once in that span.
- Be the 47th win in Lynn Farquhar's head coaching career at Syracuse and her 154th overall win as a head coach, including 107 at Saint Joseph's.
Strike Fast, Strike Late
- Coming out of the gates and doing just fine seems to be a theme for the Orange this season.
- Fifteen times this season Syracuse has scored in the first five minutes of a quarter, including three times in eight quarters across the Stanford and Cal games. Aubrey Turner was responsible for two of those, once against each team with Hattie Madden getting the first of the weekend in the 17th minute against Stanford.
- Arguably, scoring late and sealing periods is more important and the Orange have done the 13 times this season.
- Against Louisville, Jess Liddell struck with 15 seconds left in the third quarter on a penalty corner before Jovie Weaver iced the game with an empty net goal with 2 minutes and 21 seconds left.
- While the Orange have surrendered 10 goals in the first five minutes of a quarter, Syracuse has allowed just nine goals in the final five minutes of a quarter this year. Wake Forest is the only team to do so twice in the same game. Stanford and Cal each did it once last weekend.
