With a Win Friday Syracuse Would...
- Snap a two-game skid at home.
- Pick up its first win in the conference this season.
- Grab its first top-10 win of the campaign.
- Thwart a three-game skid against Duke, but win its third game in a row at Coyne against the Blue Devils dating back to November 2021.
- Improve to 4-2 against top-20 teams this season.
- Secure a 3-2 record at home through the first five games.
- Halt a four-game slide in conference games, dating back to an overtime win against No. 18 California on Oct. 13, 2024.
Against the Ranks
- Friday's game against No. 7 Duke will be the sixth time this year Syracuse takes on a top inside the top 20 of the NFHCA Coaches Poll.
- In head coach Lynn Farquhar's first season at the helm (2023) the Orange won four games against ranked teams. The 'Cuse is off to a 3-2 start against ranked teams in 2025.
- Last fall, the Orange won six of their 13 games against ranked teams, including a 4-2 stretch in the midseason that included a three-game winning streak against the top 20.
- As a head coach, Farquhar has won 25 games against ranked teams including a 1-0 thriller at Princeton earlier this year.
- Teams that feature Farquhar as an assistant coach or as a head coach are currently 5-2 against teams ranked 20th. Sunday marks the second time in her head coach tenure the Orange face a team ranked 20th.
- Farquhar-coached teams are 5-5 against teams ranked seventh. Farquhar has not coached Syracuse against a team ranked seventh as a head coach. Her last four games against seventh-ranked teams have gone to overtime while eight of the 10 total have needed bonus time to find a winner.
Jersey Retirement and 2015 Celebration
- On Friday, September 26 one of the top honors at Syracuse University will be bestowed up Alyssa Manley as her #5 jersey is retired at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
- Manley's jersey will join Julie Williamson's jersey at Coyne during halftime of the 6 p.m. game between Syracuse and Duke.
- Prior to the game, Syracuse will celebrate its 2015 NCAA Division I National Championship and student-athletes and coaches from that team will be honored on the field.
- Manley captained Syracuse field hockey to its first NCAA Championship, and first national title for a women's team in Syracuse University Athletics history.
- She was also named the Honda Sports Award recipient by the Collegiate Women's Sports Association that same season.
- A three-time NFHCA All-American in her career, Manley helped lead the Orange to a 21-1 mark during her senior campaign, capped with a victory over North Carolina in the national final.
- She appeared in 88 collegiate games with 76 starts in her career, including starting every game of her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. The Lititz, Pennsylvania native recorded 60 points in her collegiate career, with 18 goals and 24 assists.
- Manley went on to represent Team USA in a number of international competitions, including the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. That same year, she helped the United States place third in the Champions Trophy, earning the nation's first medal in 22 years at an international competition. She also boasts a gold medal from the 2015 Pan Am Games, where she scored a goal in the semifinal to lead the U.S. to the championship game.
Manley (5) is the second member of the Syracuse field hockey program to have her jersey retired, joining Julie Williamson (9). Syracuse Athletics retires jerseys of players, but not specific numbers. Manley's jersey numbers will still be in circulation for current and future student-athletes, including Sarah Smalley on this year's team.
