
Kraus-Simmons Trophy Remains In Syracuse

GENEVA, N.Y. – A five-goal run from the end of the second quarter and into the third gave the Syracuse men's lacrosse team the lead for good as it topped Hobart (3-5), 13-7, on Saturday evening at Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium.

The Orange (9-2) maintain possession of the Kraus-Simmons Trophy, named in honor of legendary head coaches Babe Kraus of Hobart and Roy Simmons Jr. of Syracuse. 'Cuse has claimed the trophy for the 10th consecutive year.

Christian Mulé led the Orange in scoring with a hat trick. Three other Syracuse performers finished with three points: Sam English (2g, 1a), Michael Leo (1g, 2a) and Joey Spallina (3a). Trey Deere and Billy Dwan each contributed a pair of goals. Finn Thomson rounded out the Orange players with multi-point performances with one goal and one assist.

The 'Cuse defensive unit had 10 caused turnovers in the contest, its second-best mark this season. Along with his two goals, Dwan forced two Hobart turnovers. Matt Wright and Carter Rice each added two caused turnovers to the impressive defensive performance.

Anthony Dattellas led the Hobart offense with four points on three goals and one assist. Fellow starting attackman Chris Patterson also contributed a hat trick. Chad Bach dished out two assists and was the other Statesmen that had a multi-point day.

How It Happened
- Hobart opened the scoring in the affair after Patterson netted a solo goal just 33 seconds into the game.
- The Orange responded less than one minute later as Mulé evened the score with a goal off a feed from Thomson.
- After the Statesmen took back the lead with a goal from Dattellas, Syracuse netted back-to-back goals from Thomson and Deere to go in front, 3-2, with 3:29 to go in the first quarter.
- Patterson got one more on the board for Hobart before Leo scored the last goal of the first period that gave the Orange a 4-3 advantage.
- Dwan netted his first goal of the affair off a pass from Saam Olexo to start the second quarter. Dattellas scored two consecutive goals that knotted the score at 5-5 with 7:08 left before halftime.
- The final goal of the first half came with 20 seconds to spare as English converted off a feed from Spallina that gave Syracuse a 6-5 edge going into halftime.
- Out of the break, the Orange scored four unanswered goals that put them ahead, 10-5. Mulé, English, Dwan and Luke Rhoa each contributed to the 'Cuse rally.
- Will Delano converted one for Hobart on an extra man opportunity, then Patterson slotted in his third in a comeback push for the Statesmen that cut their deficit to three with 1:13 left in the third quarter.
- Syracuse held Hobart without any goals in the fourth quarter and extended its lead with three of its own. Mulé, Deere and Stevens produced one goal each in the three-goal run to end the game.

- Today's matchup marked the 109th all-time meeting between the two programs. Syracuse owns an 81-26-2 record in the series.
- The Orange have won the trophy 34 times in the 38 games it has been contested for since 1986.
- Will Mark had a .588 save percentage and made 10 saves for his seventh consecutive game with double-digit stops.
- The Orange won the battle on the ground as they scooped 42 ground balls to Hobart's 29.
- Syracuse put 25 of its 45 shots on cage while Hobart hit 17 of its 32 shots on goal.
