SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team will be returning home to continue conference play, taking on Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. The Orange (2-12, 0-4 ACC) will play the Hokies (10-5, 0-4 ACC) on Friday, October 6 at 6 p.m., then will play the Demon Deacons (11-4, 2-2 ACC) on Sunday, October 8 at noon. Fans can follow along with the matches through live stats. Both matches will be streamed live, Friday's match on ACCNX and Sunday's match on the ACC Network.
'Cuse comes into the matchup with Virginia Tech looking to break the 8-8 series tie. The Orange are on a two-game win streak vs. Virginia Tech, dating back to a four-set win on October 3, 2021. The two teams met for the first time thirty years ago on September 25, 1993. The Hokies continue their second match of a five-game road swing, hoping to rebound from their current five-game losing streak. Virginia Tech finished the 2022 season with a record of 11-18 and 4-14 in ACC play.
The Orange look to continue their dominance of Wake Forest, going 11-1 in their previous meetings since joining the ACC in 2013. The past two matchups against Wake Forest were won by Syracuse, both finishing 3-1. The Demon Deacons are looking to rebound from their five-set loss to #11 Georgia Tech last weekend. Wake Forest completed the 2022 season with a 17-14 record, going 8-10 in conference play.
'Cuse is searching for its first conference win after losses to Virginia and #8 Pitt the past weekend. Junior Cherlin Antonio leads the Orange offensively, totaling 25 kills and 30.5 points in six sets of play the past weekend. Antonio is currently fourth place in the ACC for points per set (4.02) and fifth in the conference in kills per set (3.63). Freshman Zharia Harris-Waddy ranks second in the ACC with seven service aces in conference matchups, including five total and four consecutively against Virginia.
Friday's match versus Virginia Tech is Syracuse's annual Dig Pink game. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support for breast cancer research and awareness. Sunday's match against Wake Forest will be Alumni Day & Otto's Kids Club Day. Alumni of Syracuse Volleyball will be honored on Sunday and there will be a social event on Saturday for alumni.
After this weekend, 'Cuse will continue its home stand by taking on North Carolina on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. and Duke on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
