SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse men's soccer team (8-5-1) plays its final non-conference contest when it faces Albany (3-8-3) on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Bob Ford Field. The Orange is looking for its 11th consecutive victory against a non-league foe.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
No. 21 North Carolina scored the game's lone goal late in the first half to post a 1-0 victory against Syracuse in the first-ever meeting between the two teams Friday, Oct. 18 at Fetzer Field.
The Tar Heels notched the golden goal 38th minute when Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler snuck the ball past Alex Bono and into the back of the net. Skylar Thomas paced the Orange offense with two shots.
Â
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
Syracuse is 13-2-0 the past two years against non-conference opponents during the regular season, including a 6-0 record in 2013. SU has outscored its non-league foes by the count of 39-7 and recorded 11 shutouts in that stretch.
Â
Last year, SU steamrolled through the non-conference portion of the regular season, posting a 7-2-0 record and winning the Mayor's Cup XXXVI title. The 2013 campaign marks the sixth time in the last nine years, and the 10th time in the last 14 seasons, SU has posted at least a .500 record in non-conference play.
Â
Overall, the Orange has won 10 straight against non-conference opponents, including its 2012 NCAA Tournament victories at Cornell and VCU.
Â
SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES
Albany has a 3-8-3 record in 2013, including a 1-2-1 mark in the America East.
Â
Brandon Wilson leads the Albany offense with eight points on four goals. Philip Persson has a team-high three assists, while Pomare Te Anau has posted two helpers. Albany goalkeeper Tim Allen has started 11 contests for the Great Danes, registering 53 saves and a goals-against average of 1.00. Eric Orologio has appeared in five games, starting three. Â
SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday's match represents the seventh meeting between the Orange and Great Danes. Syracuse owns a 4-1-1 series advantage and holds a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) against Albany.

The Orange defeated the Great Danes last season, 2-0. SU was the benefactor of an Albany own goal and Tony Asante notched an insurance tally in the 73rd minute to propel Syracuse to victory. Goalkeeper Alex Bono posted his first career shutout in his collegiate debut, becoming the first true freshman goalie to start a season opener for the Orange since 2005.
