SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's soccer team (3-1-0) seeks to continue its impressive start when it takes the pitch this weekend at Mayor's Cup XXXVI in Oneonta, N.Y. SU faces NJIT (2-2-0) on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Hartwick College's Elmore Field, and concludes the tournament against St. Bonaventure (0-4-0) on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 12 p.m.
ABOUT THE MAYOR'S CUP
The Mayor's Cup started in 1976 and was the first truly national collegiate soccer tournament, attracting outstanding teams from across the country to battle the local sides - Hartwick College and Oneonta State - at a time when both were top NCAA Division I teams. Among the teams that have made the trip to Oneonta are Virginia, American University, San Jose State, Alabama A&M, Notre Dame, North Carolina, and, closer to home, Penn State,Cleveland State, Rutgers and Syracuse.
This year marks the 36th Mayor's Cup. Hartwick has the most titles of any school, winning the tournament 17 times and tying Pittsburgh for the championship in 1997.
SU AT THE MAYOR'S CUP
The Orange is making its fifth appearance in the Mayor's Cup. SU claimed the 2008 title with victories against UNC-Wilmington and Florida Gulf Coast.
Hartwick's Elmore Field and the Mayor's Cup represent familiar surroundings for SU head coach Ian McIntyre. McIntyre will be taking part in the annual tournament for the 16th time; four as a Hartwick player, 11 as head coaches at Oneonta State and Hartwick, and this is his second as head coach of the Orange.

The Highlanders have a 2-2-0 record this season. NJIT started the season with wins versus VMI (3-0) and Saint Joseph's (2-0) before falling to Fairleigh Dickinson (4-3) and Marist (1-0).
Five Highlanders are tied for the team lead in points with three apiece: Marko Drljic, Franco Gamero, Christian Marcel, Jason Gonzalez and Joshua Mercer. Lars Maalen-Johansen started three games in goal for the Highlanders. He has 14 saves and two shutouts.
Cesar Markovic is in his second season at the helm of the NJIT program. Previously, he coached at Saint Peter's and Stony Brook.
