SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Jordan Vale scored two goals and the SU men's soccer team (3-1-0) used five second-half tallies to dominate Colgate, 6-0, on Monday, Sept. 3 at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange's six goals is an SU Soccer Stadium record and marks the most goals scored in a game by an SU side since 1994.
"We took our chances against a very good Colgate team," SU head coach Ian McIntyre said. "We went looking for that next goal and that was pleasing from a coaching perspective."
Syracuse notched its first goal in the 17th minute when Ted Cribley found a charging Lars Muller who pushed the ball past Colgate goalkeeper Grant Reed for a 1-0 Orange lead.
Cribley also ignited the second-half scoring frenzy when he fired a shot from the right side of the box in the 47th minute for his first career goal. Two minutes later, Vale capitalized on a rebound to put the Orange in front, 3-0. Junior Tony Asante added another Orange goal in the 51st minute when he chipped a shot over the goalkeeper to extend the SU margin to four.
Vale registered his second goal of the game on a long strike from the left side of the pitch, while freshman Ben Ramin capped SU's offensive outburst when he scored his first career goal on another long drive in the 77th minute.
SU freshman goalkeeper Alex Bono made three saves to earn his third victory of the season. Bono played 75:21 before being replaced by redshirt freshman Andrew Coughlin. Coughlin played the remaining 14:39 to complete SU's third clean sheet in four outings.
Tyler Forbes led the Colgate offense with four shots. Reed made fives in goal for the Raiders. He surrendered five goals before being replaced early in the second half.
The Orange returns to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 7. SU will face NJIT as part of the annual Mayor's Cup in Oneonta, N.Y. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Hartwick's Elmore Field.
Match Notes: The Orange last scored six goals on Oct. 26, 1994 against Oneonta … The six goals broke the previous SU Soccer Stadium record of five, which was achieved five times previously (four times by SU and once by Virginia Tech) ... Cribley's four points (one goal, two assists) were a career high … Freshman Stefanos Stamoulacatos' two assists represented the first points of his career.
