Orange Looks to Rebound, Hosts Colgate Monday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's soccer team (2-1-0) looks to return to its winning ways when it hosts Colgate (1-1-1) on Monday, Sept. 3 at the SU Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and admission is free.

ORANGE SEEKING THIRD WIN
When Syracuse faces Colgate Monday, it will be seeking its third victory of the 2012 campaign. The three wins would match last season's win total. The 2011 side did not record its third win until Oct. 22 against Cincinnati.

HOME SWEET HOME
Monday's contest marks the final time the Orange will play at the SU Soccer Stadium until the squad's BIG EAST opener versus Seton Hall on Sept. 22. Six of SU's eight games in September will be played on the road. The Orange will compete in six different states overall during the 2012 campaign, including trips to Oneonta, N.Y. for the Mayor's Cup from Sept. 7-9 and Las Vegas, Nev. for the UNLV Nike Invitational from Sept. 14-16.

SCOUTING COLGATE
The Raiders own a 1-1-1 record this season. Colgate started the year with a 3-2 victory versus Binghamton. The Raiders tied with St. John's, 1-1, before losing for the first time in 2012 to Villanova, 1-0. Mike Reidy leads the offensive charge with a team-best four points on two goals. Tanner Schilling and Mike Garzi have also notched tallies for the Raiders.

Grant Reed has started every game in goal for Colgate, posting eight saves and recording a 1.33 goals against average.

Erik Ronning is in his eighth season as head coach at Colgate. He has posted a 66-42-29 overall record, and has led the Raiders to three Patriot League titles.

ORANGE AGAINST THE PATRIOT LEAGUE
Syracuse is 55-65-16 all-time against the eight members of the Patriot League. Syracuse is 1-1-0 all-time against American, 15-23-4 against Army, 3-2-1 against Bucknell, 24-29-10 against Colgate, 2-2-0 against Lafayette, 8-4-1 against Lehigh, and 2-4-0 against Navy. The Orange has never faced Holy Cross.

RECAPPING THE NIAGARA GAME
Junior Tony Asante scored his second goal of the season, but Niagara scored once in each half to hand Syracuse its first loss of the year , 2-1, on Friday, Aug. 31 at the SU Soccer Stadium. It was the Purple Eagles' first win against Syracuse since 1977.

NU's Callum Willmott scored in the seventh minute and the 46th minute to pace the Purple Eagles.

UP NEXT…
Syracuse travels to Oneonta, N.Y. for the annual Mayor's Cup. The Orange will face NJIT on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and St. Bonaventure on Sunday, Sept. 9 at noon. Hartwick's Elmore Field will play host to both matches.
