SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Jordan Vale registered his sixth goal of the season, but Louisville (7-4-0, 3-1-0 BIG EAST) came from behind to defeat Syracuse, 2-1, on Saturday, Oct. 6 in front of a record crowd of 1,652 at the SU Soccer Stadium.

"You have to give credit to this squad for pushing hard for the second goal," SU head coach Ian McIntyre said. "We can learn a lot from Louisville."

The Orange grabbed the lead initially in the third minute when Vale headed in a Jordan Murrell corner kick. Vale flew to the serve and knocked it past Louisville keeper Mike Mauro to give SU a 1-0 advantage just 2:35 into the contest.

Louisville drew even in the 28th minute when Greg Cochrane received a Dylan Mares pass near the six and tapped it by rookie goalkeeper Alex Bono for the Cardinals' first goal of the night.

In the 70th minute, Zach Foxhoven secured the victory for Louisville. He streaked into the attacking box alone and chipped the winning goal over Bono's head from nine yards out.

Bono recorded four saves in the match. Mauro tallied three saves to pick up his fourth win of the season.

SU and the Cardinals each registered 13 shots, with Syracuse holding a 7-5 edge in the second half.

The Orange returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 13 at USF. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Corbett Soccer Stadium.

Match Notes: The record crowd of 1,652 fans eclipsed the previous record of 1,581 set in the 2012 home opener versus Albany … Murrell has three assists (all on corner kicks) in the past two games to bring his season total up to five.
