TAMPA, Fla. – Senior Louis Clark scored his first goal of the season in the 16th minute and rookie Alex Bono registered his seventh shutout of the 2012 campaign as the SU men's soccer team (10-4-0, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) defeated Red Division foe USF, 1-0, on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Corbett Soccer Stadium.
"It was an excellent performance on the road tonight," said SU head coach Ian McIntyre. "Whenever you go on the road in the BIG EAST and pick up a win you show true resilience and toughness. We showed that across the board and were able to win in a tough environment."
A closely contested affair, the match remained scoreless until Clark scored off a feed from Stefanos Stamoulacatos in the 16th minute. The play was started by junior Tony Asante who was also credited with an assist on the goal.
Bono made four saves in the victory to improve his record to 9-4-0.
SU outshot its opponent for the 10th time this season, holding an 11-10 shot advantage against the Bulls. Corner kick opportunities were even as Syracuse and USF (7-3-4, 1-1-3 BIG EAST) each had six attempts.
Syracuse concludes its two-game road swing when it visits Villanova on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Kickoff against the Wildcats is slated for 3 p.m.
Match Notes: SU's victory marked its first conference road win since a 3-0 triumph at Rutgers on Oct. 2, 2009 … Stamoulacatos now ranks second on the team with four assists.
