ORANGE GETS FIRST BIG EAST WIN AT RUTGERS
Syracuse is coming off its first conference win of the season, a 3-0 shutout of Rutgers on Oct. 2 at Yurcak Field. The Orange's three goals in the contest are a season best. Seniors Tom Perevegyencev and Hansen Woodruff tallied goals less than two minutes apart in the first half, and classmate Elliott Townsend sealed the victory with a score in the 85th minute. The victory marked the team's first shutout of 2009 and the squad's first road win of the season.
JONES NAMED BIG EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Syracuse redshirt freshman goalie Ryan Jones earned BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 5 for his performance in SU's 3-0 win at Rutgers. Jones made five saves in the second half against the Scarlet Knights to record his first career shutout. He is the first player SU to be named the league's Rookie of the Week since Woodruff earned the honor in 2006.
WOODRUFF CRACKS ORANGE CAREER GOALS LIST
Woodruff scored in the 34th minute at Rutgers to give the Orange a 2-0 lead against the Scarlet Knights. It was the 25th goal of his career, tying him with Jamie Shannon and Jeff Knittel for ninth on the Orange's all-time goals list. The two points increased his career points total to 60, three shy of Eric Puls for 10th on that SU career chart.
A FEW FIRSTS
Townsend's goal in the 85th minute at Rutgers was the first of his career. The Freeport, Maine native rifled the ball into the empty net after Rutgers goalie Alex Morgans mishandled a clearing opportunity. In addition, sophomore #L.J. Papaleo and senior Kenny Caceros# each registered the first points of their Orange careers with assists in the match. Papaleo assisted on Perevegyencev's goal in the 32nd minute and Caceros assisted on Woodruff's score less than two minutes later. Both Papaleo and Caceros came to Syracuse as transfers. Papaleo scored four goals and had two assists as a freshman at Albany in 2008. Caceros tallied one assist at Maine in 2006 before joining the Orange for the 2007 campaign.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
The Wildcats are coming off a 1-1 draw against St. John's on Oct. 3. Overall, Villanova is 5-4-2 and is 2-2-1 in the conference. The Wildcats have seven points in the league standings and they are currently fourth in the Red Division.

Against St. John's, Seamon netted his third goal of the year to help the squad earn its second tie of the year. Soroka is the younger brother of St. John's senior Ryan Soroka.
