
Orange And Bearcats Meet In Halloween Spooktacular

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange kicks off its final weekend of the season by hosting Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. It's the first of consecutive matches for the Orange to close out the 2009 season. Syracuse is also scheduled to host St. John's on Sunday in a make-up game from earlier this week.
Saturday is “Kick or Treat” at the SU Soccer Stadium and fans are invited to show their Halloween spirit by dressing in their favorite costumes. There will be a costume contest and the winners will receive an SU soccer prize pack. Admission is free.
PEREVEGYENCEV KEYS ORANGE OFFENSE
Senior Tom Perevegyencev had a hand in both goals the Orange scored last week. He notched Syracuse's only goal in a 2-1 loss to Adelphi on Oct. 20, scoring in the 56th minute against the Panthers. It was his team-leading fifth goal of the season and the 15th goal of his career. On Oct. 24 at DePaul, Perevegyencev took over the team points lead, assisting on the Orange's only goal in the 36th minute against the Blue Demons. He now has 12 points on the year.
BRODE SOLID IN ROOKIE SEASON
Freshman midfielder Mark Brode tallied his second goal of the year on Oct. 24 at DePaul. The Setauket, N.Y. native struck in the 36th minute to tie the game at 1-1 just over a minute after the Blue Demons opened the game's scoring. The goal increased Brode's season points total to six, which leads all SU freshmen and ranks third on the team. He is one of two Orange players to start every match this season (Kenny Caceros is the other).
SCOUTING CINCINNATI
The Bearcats are 8-9-0 and 3-7-0 in BIG EAST Conference play. They have lost four straight games and and were eliminated from BIG EAST Tournament contention by virture of their loss to No. 5 Louisville on Wednesday. The match against Syracuse is the team's final game of the year.
The Bearcats offense features three players that have registered at least 10 points this season. Junior forward Branden Stelmak leads the way with 12 with a team-best four goals and four assists. Junior Mark Konitsch (4g, 2a) and classmate Nick Weightman (3g, 5a) have 11 and 10 points, respectively. Cincinnati has used a pair of keepers this season. Junior Matt Williams has started 13 games and has 57 saves. Sophomore Miguel Rosales has four starts with three shutouts. He owns a 0.50 goals-against average.
Hylton Dayes is in his ninth season as the head coach at Cincinnati. In 2006, he guided the club to the Red Division title and the school's third NCAA Tournament berth. Dayes owns an overall coaching record of 176-157-40, including 11 years as the head coach of Wright State's men's and women's teams.
SYRACUSE-CINCINNATI SERIES
This will be the fifth time the Orange and the Bearcats have squared off on the pitch. The series is tied at two wins apiece with both sides defending their home turf. Syracuse posted home wins in 2005 (2-1) and 2007 (1-0). The Bearcats shut out the Orange 3-0 in its first trip to Gettler Stadium in 2006 and defeated Syracuse 1-0 there last year.
