CHICAGO - After three consecutive home matches, Syracuse goes on the road for the final time during the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 24 when it visits DePaul for a 2 p.m. contest. It's Senior Day at Wish Field for nine Blue Demons who will be playing in their last regular-season home match.
Following the DePaul match, the Orange closes out the regular season with a pair of home dates. Syracuse will face St. John's on Wednesday, Oct. 28 and host Cincinnati on Halloween Night.
PEREVEGYENCEV RECLAIMS GOAL-SCORING LEAD
Senior forward Tom Perevegyencev recorded his team-best fifth goal of the season on Oct. 20 against Adelphi. The goal also increased his season point total to 11, which is tied for the squad lead. Perevegyencev scored off a set piece in the 56th minute against the Panthers. It was his 15th career goal.
CACEROS EMERGING AS AN OFFENSIVE CATALYST
Senior midfielder Kenny Caceros has registered two assists this season, a career-best total. Prior to 2009, the Nepean, Ontario native had one helper in 46 matches and hadn't found the scoring column since 2006 when he was at Maine. Both of his assists have come in the Orange's last six matches. He tallied his first in SU's win at Rutgers on Oct. 2 and his second on Perevegyencev's goal against Adelphi on Oct. 20.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
The Blue Demons are 2-2-1 in their last five games since being blown out by Louisville, 6-0, on Oct. 3 and enter Saturday's match with a 7-7-1 overall mark and a 4-4-0 record in conference play. DePaul has accumulated 12 points in the league standings and currently ranks fifth in the Red Division.
Senior Steffen Vroom has been the key to the DePaul offense this year. He is tied for second in the conference in scoring (17 points) and he is also tied for second in goals with seven. The Blue Demons have only lost match this when Vroom records a goal or an assist, dropping a 4-2 decision to division rival Villanova on Oct. 17. Junior Alex Mangan is second on the squad with 11 points and five goals.
Defensively, three DePaul goalkeepers have played at least 45 minutes this season. Freshman Joe Ferrari has garnered the majority of the minutes, playing 14 games and registering 41 saves. He has two shutouts. In addition, Eric Sorby and Mike Williams have seen time between the posts for head coach Craig Blazer.
Blazer is in his ninth season at the DePaul. He owns a 68-99-20 career coaching record and he has guided the Blue Demons to consecutive BIG EAST Championship semifinal appearances. Blazer and his assistant coach were tabbed the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year in 2007 after leading DePaul to the Red Division title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
SYRACUSE-DEPAUL SERIES
Syracuse and DePaul have met every year since the Blue Demons joined the BIG EAST in 2005. The home team has won all four meetings and the series is tied at two apiece. Each game has been decided by the score of 1-0. Perevegyencev provided the winning margin last season in Syracuse. He scored in the 86th minute to lift the Orange to victory.
