
Orange Concludes Non-Conference Play Against Adelphi Tuesday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange concludes a three-game homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. The game is also the final non-conference match of the year as Syracuse will close out the regular season with three straight league games.
Live streaming video and audio of the contest is available on SUathletics.com via Orange All Access. Tuesday is also "Camper and Clinic Reunion Night" at the SU Soccer Stadium. Youths wearing any camp T-shirt or dressed in a team uniform will receive a free camp gift. Former camp attendees are also invited to stick around after the match to reunite with their favorite coaches from previous camps.
ORANGE BOASTS BALANCED OFFENSIVE ATTACK
Eleven of the 20 players that have seen game action for the Orange this season has scored at least one point, including 10 different players with at least one assist. Syracuse also has four players with at least four points. Senior Hansen Woodruff leads the way with 10 points (4g, 2a). Classmate Tom Perevegyencev has nine (4g, 1a) and senior Elliott Townsend (2g) and rookie Mark Brode (1g, 2a) each have four.
OLIVETTI RECEIVES FIRST START OF 2009
Sophomore midfielder Nick Olivetti earned his first starting nod of the 2009 campaign on Oct. 17 against USF. Olivetti, who missed the team's first eight games due to injury, played 26 minutes in the contest and recorded one of the team's best scoring chances in the opening 15 minutes against the Bulls.
SYRACUSE RECEIVING TREMENDOUS FAN SUPPORT
Attendance for four of Syracuse's first six home matches this season has been over 1,000 and the Orange is averaging 1,024 fans for home matches this year, including three of the top five crowds in the history of the SU Soccer Stadium (1,418 for Cornell on Sept. 5; 1,311 for Seton Hall on Sept. 18 and 1,128 for Georgetown on Sept. 20). A crowd of 1,092 fans was on hand for the team's most recent match against USF.
SCOUTING ADELPHI
The Panthers enter Tuesday night's match with an 8-2-4 overall record and a 1-1-1 mark in Atlantic Soccer League play. Adelphi dropped a 2-1 decision against conference foe Houston Baptist on Oct. 17, in the team's most recent outing. The loss snapped the Panthers' nine-game unbeaten streak that began on Sept. 18 with a 1-0 triumph against VMI.Adelphi's high-octane offense was the key to its recent surge. The Panthers scored three goals five times during the unbeaten streak and are averaging 1.64 goals per game in 2009. Freshman Issa Tall has been an offensive force in his first collegiate season. Tall has scored 11 of the team's 23 goals and leads the club with 23 points. The Panthers' second-leading goal scorer is Alex Kouznetsov who has three. Overall, the Panthers have nine players that recorded at least one goal so far this season and John Koutsounadis, Brandon Stoneham and Steven Rivera are tied for the team lead with two assists each.
Defensively, goalkeepers Thorne Holder and Kyle Blackmer have combined for six shutouts. Holder owns a 0.63 goals-against average and has 40 saves and five shutouts. Blackmer has a 1.16 goals-against average in four outings with one shutout.
Carlo Acquista is in his third year at the Adelphi helm and he holds an overall collegiate head coacing record of 42-77-17. Prior to his appointment with the Panthers, he spent five years as the head coach at St. Francis College (N.Y.). Acquista graduated from St. John's in 2000 after playing four years for the Red Storm under coach Dave Masur.
SYRACUSE-ADELPHI SERIES
Syracuse and Adelphi have met 27 times with the Orange holding a 16-11-0 advantage in the all-time series. The first meeting came in 1980 and the two squads met every year from then until 2005. SU holds the longest winning streak in the series, emerging victorious in nine consecutive matches from 1994 to 2002. The two teams played last season with the Orange registering a 3-2 victory at the SU Soccer Stadium. Spencer Schomaker had one of the memorable performances in recent SU history, tallying all three goals to record the first hat trick for the Orange since 2001.
