SYRACUSE, N.Y. - James Mungro and Kyle Johnson each scored two touchdowns as Syracuse defeated Boston College, 39-28.
Johnson's first score capped a 13-play, 80-yard drive on Syracuse's first possession of the game. Mungro rushed for 15 yards on the first carry of the game to become the sixth player in SU history surpass the 1,000-yard rushing mark in a season.
The Eagles tied the game on the next possession. William Green scored a touchdown on a 40-yard run with 6:40 remaining in the first quarter. The Eagles' drive took seven plays and 71 yards.
Quarterback R.J. Anderson ran in Syracuse's second touchdown of the game at the start of the second quarter to give the Orangemen a 14-7 lead. Mungro helped set up the touchdown with a 34-yard run to BC's one-yard line.
After a 47-yard reception by SU's Johnnie Morant, Mungro scored on a five-yard run to give SU a 21-7 lead. BC answered back with a 62-yard touchdown run by Green.
Dwight Freeney sacked BC quarterback Brian St. Pierre for a loss of five-yards and forced a fumble that SU's Josh Thomas recovered on Boston College's 40-yard line. The sack was Freeney's 17.5 of the season, breaking the BIG EAST single-season record of 17 set by Virginia Tech's Corey Moore in 1999.
On the ensuing drive Anderson connected with Johnson for a 40-yard TD pass. SU had a 28-14 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, Andre Brinson blocked a punt in the BC endzone, which resulted in a safety for Syracuse and a 30-14 lead. It was Brinson's third blocked punt of the season.
Collin Barber added a 22-yard field goal to give SU a 30-14 advantage.
The Eagles cut the lead to 33-20 on a 68-yard touchdown reception by Dedrick Dewalt with 5:30 left in the third quarter. BC was unable to complete the two-point conversion
SU responded with a 14-play, 80-yard scoring drive. Mungro capped the drive with his second touchdown of the game, a one-yard run to give SU a 39-20 lead.
The Eagles scored the game's final points with 4:23 left in the game. Dewalt caught his second touchdown pass, a 15-yard connection. St. Pierre hit Frank Misurelli for the two-point conversion to bring BC within 11, 39-28.
