Andre Kates joined the Syracuse football program in 2025 as a quality control coach.
Kates has spent his previous coaching career at the high school level, successfully building programs at National Christian Academy and Rock Creek Christian Academy. In addition, he was a scouting intern with the Washington Commanders for over two years.Â
Kates signed to University of Florida and didn’t qualify where he had to spend the 2008 season at Erie Community College and led the team in tackles (49) and interceptions (3) en route to first-team all-conference and Defensive Back of the Year honors. In 2009, he played at ASA in Brooklyn where he was named Junior College Player of the year by Triumphant Sports. He recorded 64 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, nine pass breakups, four blocked field goals and two blocked punts.
Ranking in as the #6 cornerback in the country according to 247 sports the Washington D.C. native transferred to Indiana in 2010 where he played. Kates played his senior season for Virginia Union in 2012 and led the squad with five interceptions. He earned All-CIAA and second-team All-Region honors that season.
Kates signed a free agent contract with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.
