Cheung, Drabyk Pick Up Weekly AHA Honors

BOSTON — After sweeping the first weekend of the season, Syracuse University women's ice hockey takes half of the Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) weekly awards, with junior Jessica Cheung earning Defenseman of the Week and sophomore Ava Drabyk taking Goaltender of the Week. The AHA announced its weekly award winners Monday morning.Â
Cheung, an Ottawa, Ontario native, was tabbed AHA Defenseman of the Week after contributing a pair of blocks in each game over the weekend. Cheung also made the most of power plays over the weekend after scoring a goal in each game. This is Cheung's first AHA weekly award. Â
Sophomore Ava Drabyk was named AHA Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time in her career and first of the season. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native played in all 120 minutes against Stonehill. Drabyk held the Skyhawks to only one goal on the weekend by making 36 saves and boasting a .973 save percentage.
The other AHA Weekly Award winners include Robert Morris's Greta Brezenski (Forward) and Penn State's Morgan Stickney (Rookie).Â
The Orange will head to Erie, Pennsylvania, to take on Mercyhurst on October 2 and 3. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday, with both games streamed on FloHockey.
