SYRACUSE – Syracuse University Women's Ice Hockey earned its first win under new head coach Brian Idalski, blanking Stonehill 3-0 in Friday's home opener at Tennity Ice Pavilion.

Syracuse (1-0-0) scored its first goals of the season with three different scorers, one in each period: Emma Gnade, Jessica Cheung and Jordan Blouin. Jocelyn Fiala and Kerttu Lehmus each picked up an assist. In net, Ava Drabyk was sharp all night, stopping all 17 shots she faced to earn the win and shutout in her season debut.

Stonehill (0-1-0) got 57 saves from goaltender Alexsa Caron while Brooke Harb and Masyn Mullin led the Skyhawks with three shots apiece.

How it Happened

Syracuse struck late in the first period with a goal by Emma Gnade off a feeder from Jocelyn Fiala for the first Orange goal of the season.
Jessica Cheung answered next on the power play with no additional help in the second period. She collected her initial shot after a deflection and lofted it past the keeper for a goal.
Syracuse tallied another goal when Kerttu Lehmus passed the puck to Jordan Blouin in the final minutes of the game.

Behind the Numbers

The Orange outshot Stonehill 60-17.
Nea Tervonen and Emma Gnade both had double digit faceoff attributing to the teams 39 faceoff wins.
Emma Gnade led the team with 9 shots, a career high and also won 13 of 17 faceoffs.
Stonehills goalie, Alexsa Caron had 57 saves to end the game.
