Box Score Highlights

Syracuse (3-1-2) and Harvard (1-2-1) competed to a 0-0 draw on Senior Day at the SU Soccer Stadiumon Aug. 30.

HOW THE MATCH WAS DECIDED

Both teams benefited from stellar stops from their goalkeepers. Syracuse's Maya Naimoli was the first to come up big. With Harvard pressing the Orange defense, the Crimson's Brooke Huleatt took a feed in the box from Molly Vana. Huleatt's point-blank drive was kicked away by Naimoli. Syracuse's best opportunity came after a Harvard foul on the Orange's Farrah Stephens-Martin with 1:35 remaining. Vickie Jones took the penalty kick, which Harvard's Olivia Busby turned away.

AN EVEN FIRST HALF

Defense dominated the first 45 minutes of play. Each team managed two shots on goal and two saves. Harvard's Huleatt and Molly Vana were both busy, tallying three shots each. Huleatt had two tries from the left side that Naimoli smothered. Syracuse's Jones had two shots total.

PRESSURE TURNED UP AFTER THE BREAK

The second 45 minutes featured more goal-scoring opportunities. Huleatt wound her way through the Syracuse defense and had an open look off her left foot at the 53:23 mark. Naimoli managed to knock the attempt to the corner. Harvard's next dangerous try, by Huleatt again, resulted in Naimoli's key kick save.

Syracuse put back-to-back attempts on goal 32 seconds apart, but Busby was equal to the challenge. The first, at 59:57, came from Moo Galbus. Gabby Wisbeck followed that up at 60:29, putting her free kick on target.

The Orange had three more good chances after Busby stopped Jones' penalty kick. Stephens-Martin, Bree Bridges and Wisbeck had shots in the last 1:02 of the contest.

ANOTHER SHUTOUT FOR NAIMOLI

Naimoli turned in her fourth shutout in five starts this season for Syracuse. She made five saves versus Harvard. Naimoli has a 0.20 goals-against average and a .947 save percentage.

SYRACUSE SENIOR DAY

The Orange honored seven senior players and two managers in a pre-game ceremony. Julia Coval, Julia Dening, Moo Galbus, Vickie Jones, Chloe Joseph, Leda Naihin and Maya Naimoli were recognized along with managers Franny Kloska and Owen McGarry.
