No. 15 Syracuse (3-3, 2-2 ACC) wraps up its homestand this week, taking on Virginia Tech (4-3, 1-2 ACC) at the JMA Wireless Dome on Friday evening.
Opening Draw
The Orange enter Friday's matchup riding a three-game winning streak after posting wins over then-ranked No. 13 Loyola, Louisville and California over the past week. The streak has the Orange back at .500 overall and in ACC-play.
Everyone Eats
The Orange offense is hitting its stride as of late, averaging 13.7 goals per game over the last three games. Not only has Syracuse increased the offensive output, they've seen a wealth of players get on the board with goals. The Orange saw nine different players score against Louisville and followed it up with 11 different goal scorers against California.
Molly Guzik paces the offense with 13 goals and three assists on the year. Mackenzie Rich is close behind with 11 points on six goals and five assists.
Lahah Named ACC Defensive Player of the Week
Junior defender Izzy Lahah was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week after logging seven caused turnovers, seven ground balls, one draw control and one goal across games against Loyola and Louisville.
Lahah kept her foot off the gas earlier this week, causing four turnovers and nabbing four ground balls against California.
The BacklineÂ
Syracuse's defense has stood tall all year, holding opponents to just 8.3 goals per game, a top-25 mark in the nation. Syracuse took on the IWLCA's top-three teams to start its season and kept them to an average of 10.0 goals per game.
The Orange held the Golden Bears to just three goals on Tuesday, the lowest in a single-game by a Syracuse opponent since Binghamton managed just two goals in February of 2020.
The Orange are led by Lahah with 16 caused turnovers and 16 ground balls. Coco Vandiver is close behind with 13 caused turnovers and 12 ground balls. Vandiver logged a season-best five caused turnovers against the Golden Bears.
Scouting Virginia Tech
The Hokies come to Syracuse at 4-3 overall and 1-2 in ACC-play. Virginia Tech won its ACC opener against Louisville but has since fallen to Pittsburgh and Stanford.
Mia Pozzi leads Virginia Tech with 24 points, scoring 12 goals with 12 assists. She has scored in all but one game this year and logged 10 points (four goals, six assists) in a game against Elon last week.
Malie Follet is in net for the Hokies, having notched 48 saves with a save percentage of .414 this season.
Series History
Friday's matchup marks the 19th all-time meeting between the Hokies and Orange, with Syracuse leading the all-time series, 16-2.
The Hokies have never won at the JMA Wireless Dome, having lost seven in a row in Syracuse. Virginia Tech won last year's matchup, 14-11, in Blacksburg.
