Syracuse freshman Uche Izoje has been named ACC Rookie of the Week for the seventh time this season, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday.
Izoje earned the honor after recording 26 points and 14 rebounds in Sunday's road contest at NC State, a performance that marked her 11th double-double of the season and her 22nd game reaching double figures in scoring — the most among ACC freshmen and third most among all major-conference freshmen, trailing only Oklahoma's Aaliyah Chavez and USC's Jazzy Davidson, who each have 25 such games.
The game against the Wolfpack was also Izoje's sixth game this season with 20 or more points, and it pushed her into rare company. She now has two 25-point performances this season, tied with all other ACC freshmen combined. Against the Wolfpack, she became the first ACC freshman to post at least 24 points and 10 rebounds against NC State since Stephanie Watts accomplished the feat in 2016.
Izoje finished the game shooting 13-of-20 from the field in 38 minutes, adding two blocks and a steal despite Syracuse falling 82-69 at Reynolds Coliseum. She has been the engine of Syracuse's offense all season, consistently producing at an elite level against conference competition. The Asaba, Nigeria native has now won ACC Rookie of the Week honors seven times this season, a program record, further establishing herself as a strong ACC Rookie of the Year candidate.Â
