Syracuse received double-double performances from junior Gavin Doty (14 pts.-13 rebs.) and sophomore Sadiq White Jr. (14 pts.-10 rebs.) and the Orange opened the campaign with a 74-58 win against New Haven on Monday night in the JMA Wireless Dome.

A crowd of 23,283, the largest for a home opener at Syracuse since 2016-17, saw Gerry McNamara capture his first game as coach at his alma mater.

How the Game Was Decided
The Orange jumped out to an 18-0 lead early in the first half, ignited by two three-point buckets by freshman Mark Morano. Syracuse forced a miss on each of the first 12 shots for the Chargers to start the contest. The Orange never let the lead get lower than 15 points the rest of the way.

An Electric Start
Syracuse started quickly, beginning the contest on a 3-pointer from Doty, and stretching the margin to 18 just seven and a half minutes into the game. The Orange continued to put pressure on New Haven at both ends and by the intermission, the hosts had constructed a 39-17 lead. Doty had 10 at the break and Anthony nine.

The Orange limited the visiting Chargers to 7-of-27 (.259), including 2-of-10 (.200) on three-point tries, in the first 20 minutes. Syracuse also forced eight New Haven turnovers.

First Half Block Party
Syracuse stuffed six New Haven shots in the opening frame of the contest. White had two, while Morano, juniors Garwey Dual and Luke Wilson, and freshman Abdramane Siby each registered a first-half block.

Mr. 1,000, Doty
Gavin Doty earned his 1,000th career point in the opening frame on a free throw with 1:22 left before halftime. Doty tallied 991 points in his two seasons under Coach McNamara at Siena.

Orange Stay in Control After the Break
Syracuse opened the second half on a 14-8 run, going up 53-25 on a layup from sophomore Kiyan Anthony with 14 minutes to play. It created the biggest lead of the night at 28 points. The Orange never let the margin fall below 15 the rest of the half.

Career-High Night
Forward Sadiq White Jr. had a breakout night against the Chargers, recording a career-high 10 rebounds and tying his personal best in points with 14. White nabbed eight of his 10 rebounds in the first frame.
