After scoring the final two Orange goals in a top-five win for Syracuse University women's ice hockey, senior Jocelyn Fiala has been named AHA Defenseman of the Week. Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) announced its weekly award winners Monday morning.
Fiala scored twice on Friday as the Orange (4-2-0, 2-2-0 AHA) picked off No. 4 Penn State 5-4 in an overtime thriller at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Clavet, Saskatchewan product put Syracuse up 4-2 early in the third period on Friday before the Nittany Lions, who reached the Frozen Four last year, tied the game.Â
In the three-on-three overtime, Fiala skated between the circles, received a pass from Peyton Armstrong and buried the winner over the left shoulder of Penn State netminder Madison Campbell.
The two goals were Fiala's first and second of the season and her first goals since 2024-25. The overtime game-winner was the second deciding goal of the senior's career.Â
Other AHA winners this week include Forward of the Week Zoe Ziotas (RIT), Goaltender of the Week Lexington Secreto (Mercyhurst) and Rookie of the Week Halle Duchene (Mercyhurst).
Syracuse continues league play with a pair in Western Pennsylvania this weekend, taking on Robert Morris at Clearview Arena. Puck drop on Friday is slated for 7 p.m. with a 3 p.m. game scheduled for Saturday. Both games will be carried on FloHockey.Â
