ALBANY, N.Y. – Week one of the 2025 Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) season got under this weekend with plenty of Syracuse University men's lacrosse players making contributions to their professional teams.
In the Atlas' Homecoming weekend, the side played twice, topping Carolina Chaos Friday night but falling in the weekend finale to the Boston Cannons. California Redwoods bested the Denver Outlaws Friday night while Maryland Whipsnakes were edged Saturday afternoon.
Three former Orange were on active rosters last week, with another two patrolling the sidelines, another as a referee, with another on the broadcast. Additionally a current assistant coach made his PLL debut on the sidelines. Below are capsules for each Syracuse-connected PLLer.
Will Mark - New York Atlas
Now in his second year in the PLL and first with the Atlas, Mark was on the active roster for the homecoming weekend at Casey Stadium on the campus of the University at Albany, but did not see time in either game.
Carter Rice - California Redwoods
Making his professional debut as a rookie, Carter Rice saw time in the 15-12 win over the Outlaws, but did not register a stat.
Jake Stevens - New York Atlas
Making his season debut in his second season with the Atlas, Stevens took five shots with two ground balls and one turnover. He had 14 touches in the 10-8 win and completed eight passes. Roy Colsey - Carolina Chaos (Head Coach)
Taking over the reins of the Carolina Chaos, Colsey made his head coaching debut with the team. The Chaos battled with New York to open the season, but dropped a 10-8 final score in the lidlifter.
John Odierna - Boston Cannons (Assistant Coach)
Entering his first season with the Cannons, Odierna, Syracuse's defensive coordinator, helped stymy a threatening Atlas team as the Cannons limited New York to just 12 goals, including just four in the first half.
Matt Palumb - Head of Officiating
One of the top officials in lacrosse, Palumb was the head official for all four games at Casey Stadium this weekend for the Premier Lacrosse League, overseeing: Chaos vs. Atlas, Redwoods vs. Outlaws, Whipsnakes vs. Archers, and Cannons vs. Atlas.
