
Pointer Breaks School Record, Advances to NCAA Quarters

Iaunia Pointer broke her own school record and advanced to the quarterfinals in the 200-meter dash during Thursday's action at the NCAA East First Round meet in Jacksonville, Florida.
Pointer ran to a time of 23 seconds flat, besting her personal-best and school record of 23.09 seconds, which she set earlier this year. She had the second-fastest time in her heat and seventh-fastest overall. Pointer will race on Saturday, with a trip to the national semifinals in Eugene, Oregon on the line.
Savannah Roark narrowly missed advancing to the NCAA final in the women's 10,000-meter run, coming up three tenths of a second short of advancing to her second-straight national championship meet. Roark finished in 33:14.00, 0.39 seconds behind Auburn's Brenda Jepchirchir for the final qualifying spot. Rylie Lusk placed 22nd in 34:03.34, followed 11 spots behind by Emma Eastman (34:35.89).
Heidi Demeo raced in the 1,500-meter run, posting a time of 4:22.44. She placed 38th.
The men return to action on Saturday, with four runners looking to join teammate Sam Lawler in Eugene. Lawler qualified for the NCAA final in the 10k on Wednesday. Julian Franjieh and Solomon Holden-Betts will get things started at 5:40 p.m. in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. 35 minutes later, Emanuel Joseph will race in the quarterfinal of the 110-meter hurdles. Xayvion Perkins will conclude the day at 7:25 p.m. in the 400-meter hurdles.
Pointer will be the lone runner to race on Saturday, with the 200-meter dash quarterfinals coming at 7:50 p.m.
