
Franjieh Earns All-ACC, Two More Advance to Finals

Julian Franjieh became the Syracuse track and field team's fourth All-ACC performer through two days of the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and two more reached Saturday's finals.
Franjieh placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 8:52.07. He joins Sam Lawler (10k), Assaf Harari (10k) and Emma Eastman (10k) in earning all-conference accolades this weekend, with the bulk of finals still to come on Saturday. Behind Franjieh, Solomon Holden-Betts placed ninth (9:01.10).
Freshman Malachi James, who also plays running back for the Orange football program, advanced to the finals in the 100-meter dash, crossing the line in 10.32 seconds. He had the fifth-fastest prelim time.
Another runner advancing to Saturday's final is Emanuel Joseph, who set a new personal best in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished third in his heat, qualifying on time, in 13.80 seconds. Naseem Smith ran a season-best 13.98, taking 11th, followed by Isaiah Lewis (14.07 seconds) with a personal best in 12th. David Peters (14.32 seconds) and Isaiah Hayes (14.44 seconds) were 16th and 18th, respectively.
James and Joseph join Iaunia Pointer (200-meter dash) and Xayvion Perkins (400-meter hurdles) as runners who advanced to Saturday's final from Thursday's prelims.
Taleea Buxton narrowly missed the finals in the 100-meter hurdles, taking 10th in 13.58 seconds. Teammate Peyton Rollins set a new PR time of 13.73 seconds in the event, taking 14th.
Justus Holden-Betts finished 13th in the women's steeplechase with a time of 10:44.18. Baneet Bains was two spots back in 10:54.57.
The ACC Championships conclude on Saturday.
