ITHACA, N.Y. - Late hitting proved to be the difference in the Syracuse softball team's (22-16, 3-12 ACC) 2-1 loss against Cornell (13-11, 4-5 Ivy) on Wednesday at Neimand-Robison Softball Field. The teams were level at one run apiece from the second inning on until the Big Red used a go-ahead solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to take down the Orange.
HOW IT HAPPENED IN:
Syracuse struck first in the top of the second when a sac fly by Kelly Breen brought home a pinch-running Rose Cano, but the Big Red quickly equalized in the bottom of the frame on a misplayed ground ball to first that allowed a run to come home.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning when Cornell took a 2-1 lead with a solo home run. The Orange could not put together a seventh inning comeback, going on to fall, 2-1.
Cano pitched six innings in the circle, striking out three and only allowing one walk. However, the starter conceded five hits and a pair of runs.
OF NOTE:
'Cuse will travel to Charlottesville, Va. for a three-game series at Virginia from Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13. Game one is set for Friday at 5 p.m.
