Orange Lose Pair at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Syracuse softball team (22-18, 3-14 ACC) dropped both games of a doubleheader to Virginia (29-13, 10-7 ACC) on Saturday at Palmer Park. The Cavaliers took game one, 5-0, with their two pitchers combining for a no-hitter. In game two, Virginia once again no-hit the Orange, earning a 10-0 victory in five innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE:
The Cavaliers struck first in the bottom of the opening frame with an RBI double, then added two more runs over the next two innings on a ball misplayed in center field that allowed them to extend their lead.

Virginia tacked on a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth before retiring the Orange in the top of the seventh, sealing a combined no-hitter and 5-0 win to open the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO:
UVA jumped out to an early lead with a grand slam in the bottom of the first, making it 4-0. Two innings later, the Cavaliers broke the game open with a six-run third inning on four hits.

Virginia held onto its 10-run advantage the rest of the way, closing out a 10-0 win in five innings to secure the run-rule victory and no-hit the Orange for the second time on the day.

The Orange close out their series at Virginia tomorrow at 1 p.m. The contest will air nationally on ACC Network.

- 'Cuse was no-hit in both contests on Saturday, marking the first time since March 17, 2023, the Orange have played a game without recording a hit.
