CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Syracuse softball team (22-19, 3-15 ACC) dropped the final game of its series to Virginia (30-13, 11-7 ACC), 10-2, in five innings on Sunday at Palmer Park. The Orange got on the board for the first time all weekend with an RBI groundout from Angie Ramos and a sacrifice fly by Madelyn Lopez, but the Cavaliers pulled away to complete the series sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Cavaliers were the first on the board, hitting a pair of home runs in the bottom of the first to take an early 4-0 lead. The Orange responded in the top of the second with their first run of the weekend, as Angie Ramos drove in a run on a groundout.
Virginia answered right back in the bottom of the frame, scoring five runs on five hits to stretch its lead to 9-1.
Syracuse looked to chip away at the deficit when Madelyn Lopez brought home a run on a sacrifice fly, but that was all the offense the Orange could generate. Virginia added another run in the bottom of the fourth to push its lead back to eight, ultimately closing out a 10-2 win in five innings.
OF NOTE:
'Cuse will play a midweek doubleheader at Colgate on Wednesday, April 16. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
