Syracuse Takes Down Colgate 88-42

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Orange women's basketball team defeated Colgate (4-6, 0-0) 88-42 to improve to 9-1, 1-0 this season, the program's strongest start under head coach Felisha Legette-Jack.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Off the opening tip, Uche Izoje added two points to the board to get the 18th all-time matchup started against the Raiders. Sophie Burrows and Laila Phelia added back-to-back three-pointers to force Colgate to call a timeout just over a minute into the game. The Orange ran a 14-0 scoring run, keeping Colgate scoreless for the first five minutes and 46 seconds of game play, ultimately ending the first quarter leading 24-5.
In a slower-paced second quarter, nearly every member of SU saw the court, as the bench contributed eight points. Maddy Potts shot a perfect 2-2, putting up a layup and a three-point field goal while Burrows also added two buckets beyond the arc. Syracuse entered the locker room with a 42-16 advantage.
Potts completed a three-point play as her five points this quarter put her over double digits for the first time this season. The Orange had 17 rebounds and six steals to keep the Raiders to 12 points this quarter. Syracuse entered the fourth quarter topping the scoreboard 64-28.
The starters returned in the final four minutes of play in the last quarter. Dominique Darius put in back-to-back field goals, including one from the three-point line. Keira Scott led the team in the fourth quarter, going 3-5 with six points. Syracuse kept up defensively and ultimately defeated Colgate 88-42.
OF NOTE
- Dominique Darius tied her career-high of 10 assists in tonight's contest and the most since Dominique Camp for Syracuse on Feb. 6, 2025.
- Darius also had five steals, the most since Georgia Woolley on Feb. 20.2025 against North Carolina.
- Laila Phelia scored in double digits for eight games in a row.
- Phelia shot 100% from the free throw line, shooting 4-4.
- The Orange recorded 55 rebounds, the most since facing Wagner earlier this season on Nov. 16.
- Syracuse made 33 field goals, the most since playing Howard on Nov. 30 this season.
- SU attempted 75 field goals, topping the previous 71 against Utah on Nov. 21, 2025.
- The team dished out 20+ assists for the second game in a row.
- The Orange recorded 16 steals, the most since facing Auburn on Dec. 3.
- This is the third time this season that SU has scored 40+ points in the first half (Wagner, Canisius)
- Four players scored in double figures: Uche Izoje (16), Sophie Burrows (13), Maddy Potts (10), Laila Phelia (10).
- 13 out of 15 players who saw the court tonight contributed points for the Orange.
