Syracuse fans got an early look at the 2026-27 Orange in Monday night's preseason exhibition against UConn at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The Huskies earned an 88-60 win in front of 5,012 fans, but Syracuse newcomers Emely Rodriguez and Tyi Skinner led the way for SU with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Syracuse trailed 23-8 after the opening frame, shooting just 4-for-17 from the floor and missing all four of its three-point attempts. UConn stretched its lead to as many as 17 in the opening quarter.
Syracuse found a better rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring the Huskies 21-15 behind a 10-2 run that cut the deficit to nine. Rodriguez sparked the surge, hitting a three and a driving layup, while Skinner and Jaleesa Molina each added buckets in the paint. Freshman Madison Howard also made her presence felt, getting to the line and dishing out an assist on Angelica Velez's three. The Orange trimmed the gap to 38-29 at the half.
UConn pulled away after the break, though. Syracuse shot 35.5 percent for the game and was outscored 56-24 in the paint. The Orange also committed 17 turnovers due to UConn's press, which the Huskies turned into 25 points. UConn led by as many as 32 late in the fourth.
Rodriguez also hit two threes and went 2-for-2 at the line. Skinner added two steals, while Molina chipped in eight points and six rebounds. Uche Izoje grabbed eight boards, six of them on the offensive end, despite a low-scoring night for the reigning ACC Freshman of the Year.
Syracuse hit 5-of-16 from deep while holding UConn to 3-for-22, and Celaine Ricco and Olivia Schmitt both made late contributions, with Schmitt closing SU's scoring with a three.
The Orange now turn their attention to the regular season, where they will open at home against Sacred Heart on Nov. 3.
